There’s nothing like the feeling of being outside with just a pair of hiking shoes and a backpack.
You’re away from technology, out in the fresh air.” There’s this sense of adventure. You’re exploring sights you haven’t seen before.
Dawn McClennen, 47, of Middlesex County, has been hiking for a little more than 20 years. She is the co-founder of NJHiking.com, a site dedicated to New Jersey’s large hiking scene that she created with her husband eight years ago.
She’s hiked every spot featured on her site at least once.
“New Jersey is actually pretty diverse,” McClennen said. “It ranges from rugged rocky to hilly trails with views over forests and farmlands or views of the New York City skyline. There’s beachy trails on the coast and the Pine Barrens down south is an entirely different type of hiking, with flat, sandy trails dominated by pine trees.”
