Jordan Lake Hike with CTNC and NCYCC

Join Conservation Trust for North Carolina and the Youth Conservation Corps for a hike at Jordan Lake near Apex, NC on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:30 AM. You will meet up with a NC Youth Conservation Corps (NCYCC) crew that has been working around the lake.

See the work these amazing young people have done to improve, restore, and preserve trails at Jordan Lake. CTNC staff and NCYCC crew members will lead guests on a guided hike that will provide information about Jordan Lake’s unique natural resources, and what is involved in constructing and maintaining safe and welcoming hiking trails. The crew’s projects include drainage work to prevent trails from flooding, painting and fence replacement at the Visitors Assistance Center, and installation of plants at the Jordan Lake Pollinator Garden.

The trail is easy to moderate, and the crew will host a barbecue lunch at their campsite after the hike. Meet at Campsite #251 at Jordan Lake Parkers Creek Campground, Chatham County. Please RSVP to Jan Pender at [email protected] or 919-828-4199 x10.

The NCYCC is a comprehensive youth development program that uses the natural world as a platform for teaching job and leadership skills, community service, environmental stewardship, and personal responsibility. The program launched its fourth summer of conservation service this year.

NC Youth Conservation Corps crews expand public access and enjoyment of parks, trails, and other protected natural lands. Their work provides increased opportunities for North Carolina families to recreate and restore in the great outdoors. In addition, the NCYCC provides a paid summer job and a life-changing experience for the crew members as they work and live outdoors with their colleagues for seven weeks in a row.
