Raising money with safe hiking cards

Purchasing a Colorado outdoor recreation search and rescue card could help anyone in need get rescued as quickly as possible.

A CORSAR card helps fund search and rescue teams for costs they spend during a mission. Search and rescue teams are made up of volunteers and the funds from a CORSAR card helps pay for their training and equipment.

Colorado residents and visitors are well served by dedicated volunteer search and rescue teams, but mission costs are often in the thousands of dollars. By purchasing a CORSAR card you are contributing to the Search and Rescue Fund, which will reimburse these teams for costs incurred in your search and rescue. Funds remaining at the end of the year are used to help pay for training and equipment for these teams.

The card is not insurance and does not reimburse individuals nor does it pay for medical transport. It reimburses sheriffs for eligible costs involved in the discharge of a S&R mission.

When you purchase a CORSAR Card, $2 to $9 goes into the fund. Twenty-five cents of each Colorado hunting and fishing license, Colorado Habitat Stamp and boat, snowmobile and off-highway vehicle registrations also goes into the fund. The fund then reimburses county sheriffs and search and rescue teams for some expenses, such as lost or damaged equipment and mileage; And it helps equip and train Colorado’s search and rescue teams through grants.
