Hike Nova Scotia to hold Hiking summit

Hike Nova Scotia is holding its fifth annual Hiking Summit, a celebration of the province’s hiking-walking-snowshoeing culture. It will include sharing best practices, stories and networking among attendees including avid hikers, hiking clubs, trail groups, the provincial government, municipalities and others. The Digby Area Recreation Commission and the Fundy Erratics hiking group are hosts, along with Hike N.S.

“It’s a chance for people to come together on two different levels,” said Janet Barlow, Hike Nova Scotia executive director, in a phone interview. “We’re getting the hikers together, plus the people who work on the trail and focus on issues and policy.

“It’s important to do this on a regular basis so we can exchange ideas and do some networking.”

Highlights include guided hikes; keynote speaker Allan Billard, author of Waterfalls of Nova Scotia and Beaches of Nova Scotia; and sessions that include Balancing Rock, From Rope to Stairs; Outdoor Council Canada: Hike leader tips and tricks; Walking in the Footsteps: a First Nations walking program; Let’s Go for a Hike: How to Create a Hiking Group in Your Community; Future of Hiking at Kejimkujik; and, the Future of Hiking in Nova Scotia.
