Jeff. As a forester in TN I sometimes find yellow poplar degrading on lower quality sites. I can’t tell about the quality of site from your pic. Was it a southern or northern aspect? Generally, poplar does much better on northern aspects. Just some food for thought when you’re out in the woods. Nice report. I will have to try that trail this year if I get to spend more time on the Pisgah.
Hi Neal. Thanks for sharing the info about poplars. The tree would have been on the south side of the ridge to its left.
