I will let you know if we manage to get it reclaimed. It would be a really beautiful – but strenuous hike – if we managed to clear it up and do some repairs 😉

Robyn, thanks for confirming what I had discovered years ago.

It was TOUGH! In some places the trail is little more than a goat path and seems to end in overgrown brush. Lots of downed trees to work around and very difficult to find the trail. Many of the trees marking it are long since down and rotted away. We did get lucky several times to pick the trail back up but only due to taking the lesser of the evils paths. After we turned onto the burnette gap portion of the trail we were congratulating ourselves thinking we had overcome quite a bit of adversity and could relax for the remainder of the ride. WRONG..lol.

We ended up losing the trail completely on top of one of the hills and our horses were worn out and it was getting late and the trail was nowhere to be found. We dismounted and walked our horses down a super steep slope to the road and rode it back to our vehicle. I hope we can get some back country horsemen together to reclaim this trail because the views from the top in several places are spectacular! It is a trail worth saving but I definitely do not recommend anyone ride it at all once the vegetation arrives because the trail will be impossible to find in many places once that happens.
