We did a run / hike of this route this past Saturday (9/26/15). I am really glad we followed the route counterclockwise. The rains made the Toxaway river crossing a little scary, but it wasn’t bad! Canebrake kicked our ass, but I think the other direction would be far worse

I hiked this route a few weeks ago over three days. Once you get to the foothills trail coming from the Auger Hole trail turn right away from Lake Toxaway and go about 1 mile. There is a good campsite there with a nice creek running through it. If you cross the swinging bridge over the Toxaway River there are 5 very nice campsites next to the river.

Surprisingly there weren’t many. The best sites were along the Foothills Trail portion of the hike.
