The U.S. House of Representatives is about to vote on an amendment to the 2007
federal budget resolution. This amendment, known as The DeLauro amendment, would
increase funds needed to protect important research and health programs that are
critical to people with lupus and their families, their doctors and researchers
who seek to find the causes and cure for lupus.
A few days ago, thanks to the immediate response by lupus advocates and others,
the U.S. Senate passed an amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution that provided
an additional $7 billion to support research and other health and education programs.
The DeLauro amendment would do the same thing in the House of Representatives. The
Lupus Foundation of America needs your help to
get the DeLauro Amendment passed.
The House of Representatives will begin considering the DeLauro Amendment on
Wednesday morning, March 29, so you need to take action immediately! Contact your
representative now, today, and tell him or her to vote YES on the DeLauro
Amendment to the House Budget Resolution to keep America healthy and strong.
The President’s proposed budget would mean devastating cuts in funding for lupus
research at a time when research is producing tantalizing clues about the causes of
lupus and ways to improve the quality of life for those affected by lupus. Lupus
researchers are on the brink of important breakthroughs; this research momentum must
not stop.
The DeLauro amendment will protect and support our nation’s investment in
biomedical research, disease prevention, health promotion, social services, and
professional education. Please take action today to help protect these important
programs! Your messages to Congress make a difference!
