Haven't done that since the 70s. Sure,
there's been a night or two here and there during project implementations, but it has
been a long time since I strung together several nights with the owls.
Why ... you may ask am I throwing my
internal clock all out of whack? I'm observing nighttime batch processes on the
production enterprise servers searching for throughput improvements. Yes, it can
be as dull as it sounds.
It isn't so bad though. I can take my
shoes off ... burp if I need to. The only other people around are the janitorial
crew, and they leave about 2AM.
Kinda reminds me of the early days of
web development for the Internet Brothers
site. The most productive work generally occurred between midnight and 4AM. I was up
many Friday and Saturday nights building pages of helpware.
So ... I'll be doing this until Saturday
morning. When I worked shift work as a young man, the hardest part was switching at the
end of the week. It has been different sleeping during the day. Just about the time
I get used to it, it will be time to give it up.
