I finally found a job ... at least for the time being.

I've been working this past week for a mom and pop computer and Internet services company. The people are very nice and the work has been quite educational. There are ten employees at this locally owned and operated ISP.

So far, I've been working primarily with the hardware aspect of personal computing ... repairing and building customer systems. All my previous experience has been software or admin related.

I've added and removed memory, disk drives, CD burners, modems, network cards and DVDs. I've loaded missing drivers, upgraded from Windows 98 and ME to XP, installed virus protection and removed spyware. I've diagnosed performance problems and pervasive blue screen crashes.

It's been fun so far. They signed me up for a 30 day trial period. The first week seemed to go pretty well. Next week they're sending me out to meet some of their business customers.

It's nice to feel productive again.
