In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Lift
your eyes and look to the heavens who created all these. He who brings out the starry
hosts one by one and calls them, each by name. Because of his great power and mighty
strength, not one of them is missing."
"The same creator who names the stars
also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle
Columbia did not return safely to Earth, yet we can pray that all are safely home."
"May God bless the grieving families
and may God continue to bless America."
The days of cold mailing a resume and cover
letter to a company's human resources department appear to be gone. I received six
responses today to the flood mailing I did last week.
All said essentially the same thing. Here's an example:
"Thank you for your recent inquiry about
employment opportunities. Naturally we are pleased when job seekers are joining us as
a desirable career choice. We wish we could consider all such expressions of interest."
"However, due largely to ever-increasing
record-keeping and report requirements imposed by the Federal government, our policy is
not to accept unsolicited applications or resumes. Therefore, we will not make an
employment decision about nor retain the materials you sent to us at this time."
"We will, however, hope to hear from you
again in response to a specific position for which we have advertised an opening.
Typically our advertisements appear on our website at
www.youdidntfollowourprocedures.com.
They are also listed with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.
I got six of these today. The picture I
am putting together looks something like this. It's a good thing I have Internet access
available at home. Otherwise, I can see myself living at the Employment Security
Commission. Y'know, I guess a lot of people do that too, and have for years.
Whatever is best, I obviously haven't found it yet.
Better make sure my shoes have plenty of leather. Looks like I'm going to be schlepping
around quite a bit.
