The end of September is an excellent time to visit Maine and experience the natural beauty of the Pine Tree State. This fall, visitors and residents will have the added opportunity of participating in recreational and educational programming in honor of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend and NPLD.
The Great Maine Outdoor Weekend (GMOW) is a three-day long event of family-friendly educational, recreational and volunteer activities. Occurring from September 28-30, the goal of GMOW is to get as many nonprofits, land trusts, businesses, guides, etc. to host introductory, low or no cost activities to encourage Mainers to learn about the outdoors. Events planned include guided hikes, paddles, nature walks, outdoor camp outs, family fun days and more!
The last weekend in September was chosen for the GMOW because it includes National Public Lands Day, September 29th. GMOW activities are in development now. The first GMOW occurred back in the spring and featured more than 90 events.
